TURN DOWN THAT NOISE AND READ A DAMN BOOK OR TWO
Bloodshot’s daddy, Rob Miller, tells his story in The Hours Are Long But The Pay Is Low: A Curious Life In Independent Music. If you’ve been down with Bloodshot since the get-go, this is like getting a puppy for your birthday: The straight dope from Rob delivered in the uncut prose that dripped off Bloodshot’s marketing comms back in the day.
And then there’s What Do You Do When You’re Lonesome: The Authorized Biography of Justin Townes Earle. The best thing we can say is that it’s a book worthy of its subject. If you know Justin’s work, you know that’s the highest praise. If you don’t know Justin’s work we got some records to sell you that you might need more than just about anything else you own. Start listening, then start reading.
BRACE YOURSELF FOR A TRIP TO THE COAST OF LIGHT WITH LUKE WINSLOW-KING
Nine albums in, Winslow-King is still chasing new ground on Coast of Light. It’s his most adventurous record yet, with the band stretching out, taking chances, and leaning further into psychedelic and experimental territory.
“We’re playing with more genres and tones than ever before,” Luke says. “It feels natural, and I’m comfortable here. I hope listeners are ready to come along for the ride.”
SAMMY BRUE CRAFTS AN ALBUM OF NEW SONGS FROM THE JOURNALS OF HIS MENTOR, JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE
Brue's new album, The Journals, pays tribute to his mentor by writing, finishing, or re-imagining never-before-recorded songs taken directly from Earle’s journals, entrusted to Sammy by Justin’s widow. Some of the songs on the album are based on lyric sheets Brue found. Others are co-writes or songs Brue wrote based on compilations of ideas and little paragraphs Earle wrote. Fans of Justin Towne Earle will be grateful to Brue for this lovingly crafted album and will become more familiar again with a singer and songwriter dedicated to bringing the beauty of folk to the world.
BLOODSHOT WELCOMES JOELTON MAYFIELD
Tracked over three weeks in a converted barn near Alabama's Mobile Bay, Crowd Pleaser brings together a patchwork of trusted friends and collaborators, with songs that lean into the raw edges of disappointment, doubt, and self-discovery.
Joelton Mayfield is a songwriter unafraid to confront the most difficult lessons he's learned in his life and turn them into these songs meant to be shared like communion. Sounds like the kind of honest Bloodshot lives to give the world and why we couldn’t be prouder to bring into the family
CATCH THE WATSON TWINS LIVE . . . WHEREVER YOU ARE!
It’s about damn time the Watson Twins cut a live record, and no better place to do it than the city they call home. So all you need to bring their show to wherever you call home is a pair of ears, some speakers to point at ‘em, and maybe a spilt beer or three for atmosphere. Click the link and the Twins’ll do the rest.
We’re all especially proud of their cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” So proud, in fact, that we made a fancy video for it, inspired by the Watson’s wardrobe. Check it out here, and then stream the whole album by clicking the magic button below.
A NEW BIT OF BOOGIE FROM LUKE WINSLOW KING
